ALFRED, NY -- Junior first baseman and pitcher,
Sophia Chiavatti (Tustin, CA/Foothill) was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week after the Saxons' 11-game schedule in Florida during Alfred University softball's spring break training trip on Monday afternoon.
Chiavatti averaged a .412 at the plate, going 14-of-34 during the Saxons' season-opening spring break trip. Out of her 14 hits, one was a double and one was a triple as she recorded 11 RBI and crossed home plate five times as well. She totaled 17 bases for a slugging percentage of .542 and she was only struck out once during her 11 games and 11starts. Her single game highlight came against Saint Mary's where she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run as well as a sacrificed fly. Defensively, Chiavatti was perfect in the field, recording a percentage of 1.000 with her 64 putouts and five assists with no errors. In the pitching circle, Chiavatti was 1-0 in her one appearance, pitching a shutout over Pitt-Greensburg. She pitched seven full innings and gave up seven hits while also sitting seven batters in the Saxons' 8-0 win.
The Saxons will next host the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday, April 1 at 3:00 pm in an Empire 8 Conference double-header.
