Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The Alfred University softball team scored swept the final two games of its Spring Break trip in Florida Saturday. The Saxons beat Northwestern (MN), 10-4, and Anderson College, 5-3, to finish the 12-game trip with an 8-4 mark.

In the first game against Northwestern, AU took a 1-0 lead in the third. Northwestern responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning before AU exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth to lead 7-4. Northwestern got one back in the bottom of the frame before the Saxons put the game away with three sixth-inning tallies.

Freshman
Amanda Shaffer (Sandyston, NJ/KIttattiny Regional) and junior
Hannah Lawrence (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten) (RBI) each went 2-4 with two runs scored to pace the Saxon offense. Senior
Nora Passuite (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and freshman
Dom Waters (Mantua, NJ/Clearview) both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher
Kerri Keeler (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) earned the pitching win in relief of freshman starter
Dominique D'Andrea (Waterford, NJ/St. Joseph). D'Andrea went 2 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out a pair. Keeler allowed an earned run over 4 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

AU rallied past Anderson in the second game Saturday. After four scoreless innings, Anderson took the lead with a run in the fifth. AU answered with four in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Anderson drew to within a run with a pair of scores in the sixth before AU closed out the scoring with a seventh-inning insurance run.

Keeler pitched a scoreless seventh to save the win for sophomore starter
Shannon Schaefer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield). Schaefer went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, with a pair of strikeouts. Keeler allowed one hit and struck out one in her lone inning of work.

Lawrence was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and Passuite scored one run and drove in another. Seniors
Jasmine Picini (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac), Dana Torchia (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.) and
Nicole Maher (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) each scored a run for the Saxons. Torchia's sixth-inning run was the 103rd of her career, which ties an all-time school record.

AU is idle until Friday, April 1, when the Saxons open Empire 8 Conference play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against visiting Stevens. The Saxons entertain E8 foe Elmira the following day (Saturday, April 2) in a 1 p.m. twinbill.
