CLINTON, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team went 18-for-22 (81.8%) Friday night as they fell to host Hamilton by the score of 66-53.
First-year guard
Jamie Wilcox ( Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) led all scorers in the contest as she scored 19 points. First-year guard
Demitria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) and senior guard
Maddi Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) both chipped in with 11 points.
Halie Serbent recorded a double-double for the Continentals as she had 18 points and 11 rebounds, respectively.
The Saxons (2-5, E8 0-0) played even with the Continentals through the first quarter of play. Woodard converted on the layup at the 5:21 mark to tie everything up at 6-6. Hamilton led by as many as five points before
Jamie Wilcox drained the three point shot to be down 17-15 at the end of the first. After the short break the Saxons tied it up at 17 after a
Jamie Wilcox layup. Alfred played tough defense in the paint as Hamilton had to rely on three point shots, which they did to gain the 30-21 lead going into halftime.
Alfred was outmatched in the third quarter as Hamilton outscored Alfred 25-15. Alfred found its rhythm in the fourth quarter as they outscored Hamilton 17-11 with
Flint scoring nine of those points.
The Saxons showed a strong presence in the paint as they outscored the Continentals 14-10 and also had the advantage in second chance points, 11-9.
The Saxons are in action next Monday, December 12
th, as the Take on Allegheny College at 7 p.m.
