ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team had three players score in double figures as they fall to Allegheny College Monday evening by the score of 75-65.
First-year guard
Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) scored 21 points for the Saxons (2-6, E8 0-0) with first-year
Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) scoring 17 points and senior forward
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) chipping in 12 points coming off the bench. The Gators were led by forward
Olivia Barkley offensively with 23 points, respectively.
The Saxons found themselves down at the end of the first quarter by the score of 21-13. After switching to a man-to-man defense, Alfred was able to contain Allegheny as they had a scoring drought that last over 10 minutes. During that span, the Saxons went on a 12-0 run. Allegheny came back to have the 30-28 edge going into halftime.
Jamie Wilcox opened up the scoring after the intermission as she converted the layup off the feed from
Woodard to tie the game up. As the final second ticked ion the third quarter,
Jamie Wilcox made the go-ahead layup to give the Saxons the lead going into the final frame. The Gator ended the fourth quarter outscoring the Saxons, 27-16.
The Saxons had great transition offense as they outscored the Gators in points off turnovers, 17-12, as well as second chance points, 11-7. The Gators held the edge in bench points, 21-19.
The Saxons go into hiatus as their next game is Friday, December 30
th, as they play host SUNY Fredonia at 7 p.m.
