ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team came back from a 16-point deficit midway through the third quarter, rallying for a 78-74 win over visiting Keuka College Tuesday evening in the Galanis Family Arena.

Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) sunk two free throws with 35 seconds left in regulation to put the Saxons up by a point. First-year guard
Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/ Rueben A. Cirillo ) connected on two more with nine seconds left and first-year forward
Bri Hicks (Slaterville Springs, NY/Ithaca) put the game out of reach with a free throw just before the final buzzer.
Keuka (1-1) led 53-37 with 5:26 left in the third before AU closed with period on a 17-5 run to trail by only four points, 58-54, heading into the fourth. The Saxons took their first lead of the second half on a layup by senior
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) with 3:03 left that put AU up, 70-69.
Alfred (2-2) was up by four, 73-69, after a free throw by
Maddi Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) with 1:24 left. Keuka responded by scoring the next five points to take a 74-73 lead with 37 seconds remaining before AU rallied late at the foul line.
Woodard scored a career-best and game-high 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 shooting from the line. She also made two of four attempts from three-point range. Off netted 17 points and pulled down four rebounds before fouling out late. Hicks scored 13 and added a team-high six rebounds and four steals, while Wilcox and Flint each tallied 12 points.
Katie Stuart led three Keuka players in double figures with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Sam Laranjo (five rebounds) and
Lauren Anten (three assists) each chipped in with 10 points.
AU is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. at home against Hilbert.
