Saxons beat Suffolk in consolation game of UR Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team had five players score double digit points as they beat Suffolk University, 68-58, Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the University of Rochester's Chuck Resler Tournament.
 
The Saxons (1-2, E8 0-0) were led by senior guard Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) as he was perfect on all of his shots going six-for-six from the field, including his one from three-point range, and converting both of his free throws for 15 points. Junior forward Tristin Hook (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown North) scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds; sophomore guard Sage Brown (Cortland, NY/Cortland) tallied 12 points and grabbed four offensive boards.
 
The Saxons controlled the game early as they had a 14-7 lead on the Rams after six minutes of play. Hook scored six straight points in a span of three minutes to open the game up. AU led by as many as 13 with 7:46 to go in the first half, and led 29-21 at the half.
 
Suffolk fought back in the second half as they cut the lead to one off a three by guard Jonathan Eng making it 46-45. Brown and senior guard Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) both hit key free throws down the stretch to hold off the Rams. Seelman finished with 11 points and sophomore guard Scotty Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added 10 and three assists.
 
The Saxons went 24-for-53 from the field and made 18-of-26 from the free throw line and outscored Suffolk 40-22 in the paint.
 
The Saxons next game is their home opener, November 22, as they take on Keuka College as tip-off is set at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
