Off Powers the Saxons Past SUNY Purchase
 
NEW YORK, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball teams beats up on SUNY Purchase in the opening round of the Hunter Tip-Off Tournament by the score of 73-58.
 
The Saxons (1-1, E8 0-0) were led by senior forward Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) as she scored x points as she went 12-for-16 (75%) from the field, one-for-two (50%) from three and two-for-four 50%x) from the free throw line. Off also grabbed 10 rebounds, had five assist along with two blocks. First-year guard Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) scored 11 points as she went three-for-six from the field and making all four of her free throw attempts. Wilcox was active on the defensive end as she recorded three steals to go along with her two assist.
 
SUNY Purchase opened up the game scoring five unanswered points before going on their own five-zero run the tie the game up at the 7:28 mark. The Saxons trailed at the end of the first quarter 18-16. After the quick break, AU came out firing as first-year guard Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) converted on the layup that would put the Saxons out in front for good. The Saxons end the first half on a17-8 run as they took a commanding 39-29 lead going into halftime.
 
AU opened up their lead in the third as they outscored the Panthers 28-12 as they would not look back.
 
The Saxons dominated the paint as they outscored the Panthers, 42-22, had the advantage in second chance points, 22-6, as well as having the advantage in bench points, 21-6.
