ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Rochester in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Invitational after the Yellowjackets went on a six to three run down the stretch to seal the win, 71-62.
 
The Saxons (0-2, E8 0-0) had a strong performance from senior forward Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) who scored 14 points, going five-for-15 (33%) from the field and three-for-four from the free throw line (75%). Sage Brown (Cortland, NY/Cortland) had another strong performance coming off the bench as he had 14 points and five rebounds.
 
The Saxons trailed the Yellowjackets 33-28 going into halftime as the Yellowjackets went on a six to two run. Coming out of the break, the Yellowjackets opened up the game going on a 14-3 run. The three-point game opened up in the second half for the Saxons as they went six-for-13 but it was too little to late.
 
AU went 22-for-60 (36.7%) from the field and went 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the charity strip.
 
AU tied the University of Rochester in points off turnovers, 18. The Yellowjackets had the advantage in points in the paint, 30-20, as well as second chance points, 12-9.
 
The Saxons have a quick turnaround as they play tomorrow, November 19, as they take on Suffolk in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
