AURORA, NY – Senior forward
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) scored 17 points in the 67-53 loss to Wells College Tuesday evening in Aurora, NY.
To go along with Off's 17 points, she also had eight rebounds, five assist and four steals. First-year guard
Niasia Boyd (Rankin, PA/Propel Andrew Street) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds while first year forward
Bri Hicks (Slaterville Springs, NY/Ithaca) controlled the glass as she collected 10 rebounds for the Saxons.
The Express got off to a fast start in the first quarter until the Saxons closed the gap to only be down 13-11 going into the second quarter. After the short break, AU came out physical as Hicks collected the offensive rebound and converted the layup to tie the game at 13 all. That would be the only tie of the game as Wells closed out the first half with the 33-20 lead.
Wells opened up the second half on a 9-4 run that fueled them to expand the lead as the scored at the end of the third was 54-34. The Saxons outscored the Express 19-14 in the fourth.
The Saxons shot 17-57 (29.8%) from the floor and 18-31 (58.1%) from the charity stripe.
AU had the advantage in second chance points, 16-14, as well as bench points, 18-6.
The Saxons (0-1, E8 0-0) play SUNY Purchase this Friday, November 18, in the first round of the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament at 7 p.m.
