ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team defeated visiting Brockport, 5-4, in a non-conference matchup Monday afternoon.
 
AU (4-8) split six singles matches and took two of three doubles matches.
 
In singles play, junior Sarah Grace (Rochester, NY/Penfield) took third singles, 6-1, 6-2; freshman Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) won fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3; and the Saxons won sixth singles by injury default.
 
In doubles play, Alfred got an 8-2 win in second doubles from Grace and sophomore Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy). AU won third doubles by injury default.
 
The Saxons are in action next on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. at Empire 8 Conference foe Houghton.
