Alfred University’s Deaver qualifies for NCAA diving regionals in Saxons’ loss to LeMoyne

AU junior sets new school and pool records

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming and diving dropped a 167-124 decision to visiting LeMoyne College Wednesday afternoon at Lebohner Pool.
 
AU junior Christopher Deaver (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) swept the diving events, winning on the 1-meter board (309.90 points) and the 3-meter board (296.63).
 
Deaver's score in 1-meter diving set new school and Lebohner Pool records (six dives) and qualified him to compete at the NCAA Division III diving regionals Feb. 27 at SUNY Cortland. He broke the 1-meter record previous six-dive record of 289.15 points set by John Sturm in 1984.
 
Sophomore Alec Toth (Lockport, NY/Strarpoint) also had two individual wins for Alfred. Toth won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.97) and 100-yard freestyle (50.35 seconds). Freshman Zachary Goodwin (Holden, MA/Wachusett) earned Alfred's other individual win, taking the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.40.
 
AU is in action next on Friday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. at home against Utica.
