Alfred University football recruits include 16 New York State all-stars

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University football team will welcome 88 recruits when preseason camp opens in mid-August. Among the players joining the Saxons are 16 New York all-state selections.
 
Among the Saxons' New York State all-star is Bryce Morrison, a 6-1, 180-pount quarterback-defensive back from Randolph High School (Jamestown area, Section VI). Morrison is the reigning New York State Class D Co-Player of the Year and a First Team Western New York all-star. He also earned Second Team all-state honors as a receiver in 2013.
 
Other state all-stars in the Saxons' recruiting class include: Michael McMullen, a quarterback from LeRoy High School; Jayden Gavidia, a wide receiver from Homer High School; Stephen Almond, a tailback from Whitesboro High School; Michael Kelleher, a defensive end from Maryvale High School; Rasean Joseph, a defensive back from Green Tech High Charter School in Albany; and Michael LaNoir, a tight end from Glens Falls High School.
 
McMullen (6-0, 180) was a Second Team Class C all-state selection and First Team All-Greater Rochester pick as a senior in 2014.
 
Gavidia (5-9, 170) is a two-time New York State Class B all-star, earning First Team honors in 2014 and Third Team honors in 2013. He was also a two-time Central New York First Team all-star (2013 and 2014).
 
Almond (5-9, 180) was a two-time Class A all-state tailback, earning First Team honors as a junior in 2010 and Third Team honors in 2011, his senior season. He transfers to Alfred University from Mohawk Valley Community College, where he has been a member of the baseball team.
 
Kelleher (6-0, 235) was a First Team Class B all-state selection and a First Team Western New York all-star as a senior in 2014.
 
Joseph (5-11, 205) was an honorable mention Class A all-state pick in 2014. He was also an Albany Times-Union First Team all-area selection.
 
LaNoir (6-3, 225) was a First Team Class B state all-star as a senior in 2012, when he also earned First Team all-area honors from the Albany Times-Union. LaNoir transfers to AU from the University at Albany.
 
Other New York State all-stars in this year's Alfred University recruiting class are:
 
  • Johann Doerer (6-2, 180), wide receiver, Dolgeville High School. He was a First Team New York State Class D and First Team Central New York all-star in 2014.
 
  • Christopher Warnke (6-3, 220), fullback, Cambridge High School. Warnke was a two-time NYS Class D all-star, earning Second Team honors in 2014 and honorable mention in 2013. He was Section II Class D Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2014.
  
  • Bobby King (6-4, 255), defensive tackle, Liverpool High School. King was an honorable mention Class AA all-state pick as a senior in 2014. He was also named a First Team Central New York all-star last fall.
 
  • Tom Kelso (5-6, 165), linebacker, LeRoy High School. Kelso was a two-time NYS Class C all-star in high school, earning First Team honors in 2014 and Second Team recognition as a junior in 2013. He was also a First Team Livingston County all-star last fall.
  
  • Eli Postlethwaite (6-4, 240), defensive end, Ontario High School. Postlethwaite was a Second team Class B all-star and a First Team Finger Lakes all-star as a senior in 2014.
 
  • Jeffrey Klossner (5-10, 240), offensive lineman, Waverly High School. Klossner was a two-time Class C New York State all-star, earning Second Team honors in 2014 and honorable mention in 2013.
  
  • Keith Rekczis (6-0, 190), tailback, Watkins Glen High School. Rekczis earned New York State Class C honorable mention as a senior in 2014.
 
  • Chase Swetland (6-0, 170), strong safety, Portville High School. Swetland was an honorable mention Class D New York State all-star and a First Team Section VI Cass D all-star in 2014.

Glenn High School, Elwood, NY; Justin Wynn (5-9, 180), defensive back, Rancocas Valley High School, Mount Holly, NJ; Blake Bond (5-11, 290), offensive lineman, Gwynn Park High School, Brandywine, MD; Lewis Ortega (5-8, 150), defensive back, Herbert H. Lehman High School, Bronx, NY; Bailey Reid (6-0, 295), offensive lineman, Central Square (NY) High School; Michael Gibson (6-1, 225), linebacker, Fairmont Heights High School, Capitol Heights, MD.
