PITTSFORD, NY—The Alfred University men's lacrosse team (11-2, E8 4-2) was shut out in the second half to drop their second game of the season to St. John Fisher College, 10-7, at Growney Stadium in Rochester, NY.
Â
Freshman
Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) scored four goals for the Saxons while nabbing one groundball. Also scoring for AU was senior
Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua), sophomore
John Winchell (Vestal, NY/Vestal), and sophomore
Nick Skibitsky (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East). The leading goal-scorer for the Cardinals was Tim Wagner, with a hat trick.
Â
Winchell and sophomore
Derek Bishopp (Livonia, NY/Livonia) chipped in with two assists each. Wood and sophomore
Chris Deisenroth (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each added an assist to the Saxons' attack.
Â
AU opened the game on fire, scoring the first five goals of the contest in rapid succession. Wood and Winchell were the first to strike for the Saxons, followed by two goals for Lynch and a goal from Skibitsky. St. John Fisher answered with two goals with 31 seconds and 3 seconds left in the quarter to bring the Saxon advantage back to three.
Â
The opening 9 minutes of the second quarter were quiet, with neither team lighting up the scoreboard, but the silence was broken by Lynch with 6:14 left in the half to grab his hat trick for the afternoon and a 6-2 advantage on the Cardinals. Fisher's, Nick Rossi, found the back of the net with 1:52 to go in the second quarter, but his efforts were matched by Lynch again with 4 seconds left in the half.  At the intermission the Saxons held the 7-3 advantage.
Â
However, the advantage would not prove to be enough in the end as the Cardinals rattled off seven unanswered goals in the second half to carry their momentum to the finish line with a 10-7 win. The Cardinal shots on goal outnumbered the Saxons 12-6 in the latter half.
Â
Sophomore
Jimmy Pratti (Minisink, NY/Minisink Valley) led the Saxons with five groundballs while Deisenroth tallied four. Sophomore
Nate Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) had three caused turnovers for AU.
Â
Freshman
Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) had nine saves in the game and causing three turnovers. Tanner Swan was in goal for Fisher, making eight saves.
Â
