ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team edged visiting Houghton, 5-4, in an Empire 8 Conference matchup Friday afternoon.

AU won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to improve to 8-3 on the season, 2-2 in Empire 8 play.

Alfred got singles wins from junior Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), 6-4, 7-5 in first singles; senior Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside), 6-3, 6-2 in third singles; and junior Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen), 6-2, 6-1 in fifth singles.

Doud and junior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) took first doubles, 8-6, while Graham and sophomore Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) won second doubles, 8-5.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 18, for a key Empire 8 match with visiting St. John Fisher at1 p.m.
