Box ScoreFREDONIA, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team claimed an 8-1 non-conference victory at Fredonia State on Tuesday afternoon.
AU won five of six singles matches and swept three doubles contests to improve to 3-9 on the season. Fredonia fell to 6-5 with the loss.
Winning singles matches for the Saxons were: senior
Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville), 6-3, 6-1 in second singles; senior
Kallie Clapper (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley), 7-6, 6-1 in third singles; freshman
Emma Seimer (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy), 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles; freshman
Abby Williams (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond), 6-2, 6-1 in fifth singles; and freshman
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy), 6-1, 6-2 in sixth singles.
Senior
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs) and Jackson won first doubles, 8-3; Siemer and Gillett took second doubles, 8-5; and Clapper and sophomore
Sarah Grace (Rochester, NY/Penfield) took third doubles, 8-1.
AU is in action next on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. for an Empire 8 match at Utica College.
