Box ScoreALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team held on to a lead that was established after doubles to claim a 6-3 win over non-conference opponent, Oswego State on Sunday afternoon on the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.
After the doubles play concluded, the Saxons (2-9, 1-5 Empire 8) were up, 2-1 with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The duo of seniors
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs) and
Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) defeated Alicia Kreamer and Allie Foland, 8-5. The freshmen pair of
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy Central) and
Emma Siemer (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) won at the third lineup spot over Madeline Klatt and Giovanna Saulle, 8-4.
Cook, Jackson and Siemer also claimed wins in singles at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Cook topped Travis, 6-2, 7-5. Jackson defeated Kreamer, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Siemer shut down Leslie Usherwood in a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Freshman
Abby Williams (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond Central) also had mirrored set scores in her No. 6 singles win over Bianca Camillaci.
Sunday was the Saxons' Senior Day as well as their Pink Day in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Seniors Cook, Jackson and
Kallie Clapper (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) were honored in pre-match ceremonies.
The Saxons will next close out their fall season with three road matches that start with a non-conference showdown with Fredonia on Tuesday, October 6 at 4:00 pm before back-to-back Empire 8 matches with Utica College and Elmira College on October 10 and 11, respectively.
