Box Score CANTON, NY—The Alfred University women's soccer team fell on the road to SUNY Canton, 1-0, Saturday afternoon, despite creating multiple offensive chances.

The first opportunity came for the Saxons in the 6
th minute when freshman
Alyssa Garbarino (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) tore into the box and ripped a shot. However, her attempt was turned away by the Kangaroos' keeper.Â

In the 17
th minute, Canton took advantage of their first opportunity of the afternoon when Kristina DiNardo received a through ball up the middle and slipped a shot past a charging Saxon keeper. Sophomore
Lauren Wyant (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) attempted to match the play with a goal of her own in the 19
th minute but AU was turned away again. The remainder of the half stayed rather quiet at the Roos carried a 1-0 advantage into the intermission.

Senior
Rachel Ball (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) created an opportunity in the 65
th minute, but was unable to capitalize. Again in the 72
nd minute the Saxons were knocking on the front door of Canton's goal when junior
Hayley Hammer (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) put a shot on goal, but AU was denied again. Senior
Mary Hendee (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Wyant took two more chances for the Saxons but were unable to beat the opposing keeper to tie the game up at one. As time ran out, the Kangaroos maintained their 1-0 advantage and earned their fourth win of the season.

Sophomore
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) was in goal for the entirety of the game for AU making 10 saves.Â

The Saxons (1-8-1, E8 0-2-0) return home on Tuesday to take on Empire 8 foe, #16 Nazareth College at 7 PM at Yunevich Stadium.Â
