Alfred University shuts out Naz on the road 4-0

ROCHESTER, NY—Junior Oumar Soumahoro (New York, NY/Martin Luther King) scored two goals in the first fifteen minutes to lead the Saxons (7-1-2, E8 2-0-1) to a 4-0 shutout over Nazareth College Saturday afternoon on the road at Golden Flyer Stadium.

Soumahoro's first goal came in the 10th minute from sophomore Cody Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia).  Soumahoro quickly doubled his tally with a second goal in the 15th minute, receiving a pass from fellow junior Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West).

Lander chipped in with another assist in the 30th minute when he ripped a shot off the crossbar and junior James Piombino (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) cleaned up the mess and buried a shot home for his third goal of the season.

With a hefty 3-0 lead, the Saxons carried momentum into the halftime.  AU tormented the Golden Flyers in the first half with 12 shots on goal and three corner kicks.

In the 70th minute, junior Aidan Calkins (Oakland, ME/Messalonskee) sealed the fate of the game with a goal on a pass from senior Omar Mohamed (Kukuma, Kenya/Edison Tech).  Over the next twenty minutes, AU was unable to put a shot on goal while only allowing two shots on goal against.

Over the course the game the Saxons outmatched the Golden Flyers in shots (25-15), shots on goal (18-10) and corner kicks (6-1).  Time in goal was split between sophomore Christopher Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) and senior Matthew Unick (Warwick, NY/Warwick).  Gutierrez notched nine saves over 83 minutes while Unick stopped one shot over seven minutes.

AU finishes up its five-game road stretch on Tuesday when they travel to Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils at 7 PM before returning home for three games.
