Box ScoreUTICA, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team claimed an 8-1 Empire 8 Conference victory at Utica College Saturday afternoon.
AU swept six singles matches and took two of three doubles contests to improve to 4-9 over on the season and 2-5 in Empire 8 play.
Winning singles matches for the Saxons were: senior
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs), 6-0, 6-1 in first singles; senior
Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville), 6-0, 6-0 in second singles; senior
Kallie Clapper (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley), 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 in third singles; freshman
Emma Siemer (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy), 6-0, 6-0 in fourth singles; freshman
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy), 6-1, 6-0 in fifth singles; and freshman
Abby Williams (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond), 6-0, 6-0 in fifth singles.
Cook and Jackson won first doubles, 8-0; and Clapper and Siemer took third doubles, 8-0.
AU is in action next on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. for an Empire 8 match at Elmira College.
