ALFRED, NY-- The AU Saxons were shut out 4-0 by D'Youville College Tuesday evening after a half-hour delay put the game behind schedule.

The AU defense put up a strong fight to start the game only allowing one goal in the first 25 minutes.  The 1-0 game ensued for nearly the rest of the half when Liz Lyons increased the Spartan lead 2-0 only two minutes before half time.

The second half saw more of the same when the Saxons looked to hold the deficit at two, but the Spartan attack was too much increasing the lead 3-0 in the 57th minute.  The last goal for D'Youville came with only two seconds left in the game, with 4-0 showing as the final siren sounded.

The Spartans of D'Youville put up a very strong defensive showing to help bolster their offense against the Saxons.  Mary Hendee (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) put two shots on goal for AU, leading the team. Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) started in the goal and had five saves in 63 minutes.  Senior Alicia Hanes (Vestal, NY/Vestal) played the remainder of the game, tallying six saves.

The Saxons (3-6-1 Empire 8 0-2-0) are in action again on October 4th, when they take on Lebanon Valley.
