ONEONTA, NY—The Saxons fell to the Hartwick Hawks in a close 1-0 game Saturday afternoon.
 
The Saxons came out in the early going of the game looking to control the ball putting multiple shots on goal, but were denied.  Following the offensive play by the Saxons, the Hawks maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the first half putting six shots on goal.
 
The lone goal of the game came late in the first half from a Hartwick corner that was headed past sophomore keeper Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) by the Hawk's Casey Boucher. 
 
The second half was a defensive affair, with the Saxons refusing to concede an insurance goal to the Hawks.  Shanahan had six saves in the second half behind the Saxons defense.  She would end the afternoon with 11 total saves.  Shanahan is currently leading the Empire 8 in saves with 83.
 
The Saxons (3-5-1, Empire 8 0-2-0) hit the soccer pitch again September 30^th at D'Youville College.
