Box Score

ALFRED, NY— Freshman keeper Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) recorded 11 saves in a 2-0 loss vs. SUNY Geneseo.
 
Despite the box score, Friday evening's game was a struggle between two even foes.  The Knight's defense was strong, not allowing a shot on goal the entire game in spite of many AU offensive runs.
 
During the first stanza of the game Geneseo put seven shots on goal, with Shanahan only allowing one goal in 16^th minute.  Geneseo's Jori Semrau found a loose ball in the box and volleyed the ball over the head of the diving Shanahan to put the Knights up 1-0. 
 
The Saxons came out in the second half looking sharp holding the Knights to only one shot on goal until Laurie Knapp broke away from the defense and wrapped a shot around the fingertips of Shanahan putting Geneseo up 2-0.  The Saxons wouldn't go away quietly as they took the ball into the opposing box multiple times.  However, to no avail as the defense parried the ball away.
 
The Saxons (2-2-1 Empire 8 0-0) are back in action again on September 17^th at Yunevich Stadium vs. Hilbert College.
