Box Score POTSDAM, NY-- The Alfred University Saxons' women's soccer team (0-1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) fell 3-0 to New England College in the 2014 Potsdam College Cup Final Sunday afternoon.

Freshman goalie
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) showed her ability between the pipes again on Sunday afternoon racking up nine saves, but the NEC Pilgrims still managed to put three goals in the net. Katie Hatch scored the first two goals for NEC in the first half of Sunday's game putting the Pilgrims on top 2-0.

The Saxons would come out in the second half with some solid defense as they only allowed four shots on goal. The final goal for NEC came in the 81
st minute when Kaylee Thrasher received a pass from Rachel Thomas at the top of the box and sent the ball off the hands of Shanahan into the back of the net sealing the 2014 Potsdam College Cup for the Pilgrims.

Shanahan ended the tournament with 23 saves in two games, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team along with freshman teammate
Lauren Wyant (Jasper/Jasper-Troupsburg). Â
The Saxons are in action again Saturday, September 6
th against SUNY Canton at 4pm.
