MENDON, NY -- Host St. John Fisher defeated the Alfred University men's tennis team, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
AU (11-7, 2-2 Empire 8) won two of three doubles matches, but earned just two singles wins.
AU sophomore
Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and senior
Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) won first doubles, 9-7, while senior
Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker) and junior
Mike Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) took second doubles, 8-1. Doud won first singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Nonnenmann won fourth singles, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6.
With his victory in first doubles, Nonnenmann now has 40 career doubles wins, which ties him with former Saxon Nick Schneider for the school record.
AU plays next on Friday, April 25, at 4 p.m. at home against Ithaca.
