HOUGHTON, NY – Alfred University senior
Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) broke the school's career wins record as the men's tennis team whipped host Houghton College, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon.
Nonnenmann won his fourth singles match, 6-0, 6-2, and teamed with sophomore
Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) to take first doubles, 8-1. The two wins give Nonnenmann a total of 72 combined singles and doubles wins in his career, a new school record.
He came into the match with 70 combined wins, which tied for the career record with former Saxons Nick Schneider (2008-12) and Nathan Garletts (2009-12). Nonnenmann now has 36 career singles wins (one behind school career leader Randy Vecchione's 37 (2002-05) and 36 doubles wins (four behind Schneider's record 40).

Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker), 6-1, 6-1 in second singles; freshman
Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 in fifth singles; and sophomore
Kyle Merrifield (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home), 6-1, 6-4 in sixth singles.

Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) teamed to win second doubles, 8-4, and Haskins and Merrifield won third doubles, 9-8.
The Saxons (8-5) open Empire 8 Conference play with a pair of road league matches this weekend: Saturday (April 5) at 2 p.m. at Stevens and Sunday (April 6) at 1 p.m. at Hartwick.
