Mustangs edge Lady Saxons in OT, 16-14

Box Score MORRISVILLE, NY –The Alfred University women's lacrosse fell to Morrisville State 16-14 in overtime, Tuesday evening on the road.

Senior midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip), senior defender Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), junior attack Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) and freshman attack Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) all scored two goals apiece, giving AU an 8-6 halftime lead.

Morrisville evened the score at 10-10 with 14:31 remaining in the second half. Both traded goals throughout the second half until Button netted a goal inside 20 seconds to give the Lady Saxons a 13-12 lead. The Mustangs gained the equalizer as time expired to force overtime.

Goals were exchanged in the overtime frames, but Morrisville scored the final goal as overtime expired to secure the win.

Gallipeau finished with a team-best five goals and Button followed with four scores and a team-high seven caused turnovers.

Junior Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) made a game-high 14 saves in 66 minutes, in net for AU.

Alfred (1-2, 0-0 Empire 8) opens conference play against St. John Fisher on Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m.
