Women’s Lacrosse handles Wells in home opener, 16-5

Box Score ALFRED, NY –The Alfred University women's lacrosse handed visiting Wells College a 16-5 loss, Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium. This non-conference win moves the Lady Saxons to 1-1 on the season.

AU held a comfortable 9-3 lead at halftime and outscored the Express 7-2 in the second half. For the game, Alfred held a 38-14 shot advantage, and picked up 27 ground balls to Wells' 12.

Junior attack Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) and freshman attack Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) both combined for eight goals (four each), for Alfred.

Senior midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) and senior defender Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) posted hat-tricks, scoring three goals apiece, and junior midfielder Sarah Evans (Lafayette, NY/Manlius-Pebble Hill) added a goal.

White and Button also caused two turnovers each.

Junior Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) went the distance in net for AU, making six saves.

Alfred returns to action on Tuesday, March 25, at 4 p.m. against Morrisville State.
