Box Score 2 TUSCON – The Alfred University softball team split two games Monday afternoon on the first day of its 12-game Spring Break trip in Arizona. The Saxons rebounded from a 6-4 loss to Baldwin Wallace with a 10-8 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran.

In the win over Wisconsin Lutheran, Alfred erased a one-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wisconsin Lutheran had rallied from five runs down with six runs in the top half of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead.

Freshman third baseman
Liz Thompson (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored and senior outfielder
Samijo Scheer (Corning, NY/Corning East) scored a run and drove in four to pace the Saxons. Scheer hit a two-run homerun in a six-run fourth inning that put the Saxons up 7-2.

With AU trailing 8-7, sophomore outfielder
Samantha Jauregui (Lindsay, CA/Lindsay) led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. Jauregui went to third on a single by sophomore second baseman
Dana Torchia (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.), who advanced to second on the throw in. Scheer followed with a sacrifice fly to score Jauregui with the tying run and sophomore shortstop
Nicole Maher (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) doubled to plate Torchia with the go-ahead run. Sophomore
Nora Passuite (Lockport, NY/Lockport) tripled in Maher to give AU a 10-8 lead.

Katelyn Jakobsen (Elmwood Park, IL/Elmwood Park) came on in the top of the seventh and allowed a lead-off single before retiring three straight to earn the save for junior
Tori Kramp (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury).

Jauregui (2-for-4) and Torchia (2-for-2) each scored twice for the Saxons, while Maher, Passuite and freshman
Sophia Chiavatti (Austin, CA/Foothills) (RBI) each had two hits.

Alison Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) got the pitching start for Alfred and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over five innings. Chiavatti relieved Wickwire to start the sixth and allowed six earned runs on three hits and four walk in two-thirds of an inning. Kramp relieved Chiavatti and ended the inning with a strikeout.

In the loss to Baldwin Wallace, AU was down 3-0 before plating four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Baldwin Wallace tied the game with a run in the fifth, then scored a pair in the seventh to claim the comeback win.

Alyson Hampton (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) each scored a run for AU.

Jakobsen started for AU and went two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out two. Chiavatti took the loss in relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and striking out three.
