OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team wrapped up its fall regular season with a 7-2 non-conference victory at SUNY Oswego Sunday afternoon.
AU swept doubles play, with juniors
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs) and
Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) winning first doubles, 8-5; seniors Brennan
Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline) and
Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) taking second doubles, 8-4; and freshman
Sarah Grace (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and senior
Betsy Clark (Webster, NY/Bishop Kearney) claiming third doubles, 8-5.
AU won four of six singles matches. Cook won second singles, 7-6, 6-2; Jackson won third singles, 6-3, 6-2; Eisenberg won fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3; and freshman
Callie Clapper (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) won sixth singles, 6-1, 7-6.
Alfred (7-5, 5-3 Empire 8) is in action Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 10-12) at the New York State championship tournament in Ithaca.
The Saxons have also qualified to compete in the four-team Empire 8 Conference championship tournament Oct. 18 and 19 at Stevens Institute of Technology.
