ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women's tennis team defeated visiting Lycoming College, 6-3, on Sunday.
With the win, Alfred ended a six-match losing streak. The Saxons swept doubles play and took three of six singles matches.
Winning singles matches for AU were sophomore
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs), 8-0 in second singles; junior
Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay), 6-2, 6-2 in third singles; and freshman
Alexandra Smith (Watertown, NY/Watertown), 6-0, 6-2 in fourth singles.
In doubles play, junior
Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline) and Cook took first doubles, 9-7; Eisenberg and Smith won second doubles, 8-3; and senior
Alison Clemente (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) and senior
Bethany Dickerson (Alma, NY/Wellsville) claimed third doubles, 8-6.
AU hosts Empire 8 foe Elmira on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m.
