PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University women's tennis team traveled to St. John Fisher for its 2013 Empire 8 Conference opener Tuesday afternoon and fell 6-3 to the host Cardinals.

The Saxons (1-2, 0-1 Empire 8) got singles wins from junior Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline), 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in second singles, and junior Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay), 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1) in fourth singles.

Ferguson and Eisenberg teamed for Alfred's lone doubles victory, taking second doubles 8-6.

AU is in action next on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m., at home against Empire 8 foe Ithaca. The Saxons play a pair of weekend conference matches, both at home: Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. against Hartwick and Sunday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. against Stevens.
