UTICA, NY — The Alfred University women's tennis team earned its first Empire 8 Conference win of the year Saturday, blanking host Utica 9-0.
Alfred (4-8, 1-6 Empire 8) swept the singles matches, getting victories from junior
Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline), 8-4 in first singles; sophomore
Rachel Cook (Youngstown, OH/Laurel Springs), 8-6 in second singles; junior
Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay), 6-1, 6-0 in third singles; freshman
Alexandra Smith (Watertown, NY/Watertown), 6-0, 6-0 in fourth singles; and senior
Bethany Dickerson (Alma, NY/Wellsville), 6-0, 6-4 in fifth singles; and senior
Alison Clemente (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), 6-3, 6-3 in sixth singles.
The Saxons took all three doubles matches. Ferguson and Cook won first doubles, 8-2; Eisenberg and Smith claimed an 8-2 decision in second doubles; and junior
Paige Beeber (Syosset, NY/Syosset) and Dickerson won third doubles, 8-0.
AU wraps up its season at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at home against Daemen.
