Brandy Owens wrapped up her undergraduate cheerleading career on Saturday during the large Road to Daytona Showcase, hosted by Gannon University. She helped the Saxons finish third in the Women’s College All-Girl Intermediate class, just behind two NCAA Division I programs, St. Joseph’s University and Ohio State University. Coming into the competition, the Saxons had to rework their routine less than 24 hours prior to competition. In a statement, Owens mentioned that her goal going into Saturday’s showcase was to hit all of her stunts and she did just that, scoring high points in that area. Head Coach, Dr. Amy Button-Ervin said of Owens’ performance, “In the past two weeks, Brandy has changed positions to serve the team in the unexpected absences of athletes. She not only moved into a new group with a new flyer, but had to learn how to secondary base advanced stunts, as well as serve as a backspot, both of which she has rarely done in her 4 years at Alfred, where she served predominantly as a primary base. She was adamant that even though she was coming off of concussion protocol until Thursday that she was going to make those stunts hit and she did just that!”
