Israel-Akinbo, aka ‘Deji’, was a driving force for the Saxons to pick up a win on the road at Buffalo State, having remained on the field for all 80 minutes of play. Deji recorded two tries on the day, assisting on another and had one tackle in particular that could be considered a play of the year. While getting attention on the sideline from AU’s Sports Medicine professional, Buff. State had a breakaway run on the far sideline, heading towards the try zone. Deji spun around and ran across the field, chasing the player down and making a try-saving stop, adding to a whole bundle of tackles on the day, totaling 3.5 with three turnovers won. Deji and the Saxons had to play the final 15 minutes with a man down and still earned the win. Both of his tries were big runs, including one coming right after a kickoff.
