Sophomore Amanda Burns had a breakout week as she helped the Saxons not only go 3-0, but also punch their ticket into the Empire 8 Tournament for the second consecutive year and only the second time in school history. On Saturday, against Utica College, Burns broke an Alfred University school record with 54 set assists in the four-set encounter. It was also an overall match career-high for the rookie as she had previously beat her personal best of 42 assists (against Houghton College) with 47 in the match prior to Utica, against Hartwick. Earlier in the week, Burns helped the Saxons take revenge against Elmira College in Empire 8 action with 35 set assists. She also chipped in defensively as she recorded a double-double against Hartwick with 11 digs to go along with her 47 assists. She tacked on eight digs against Utica and four against Elmira. In all three matches this week, Burns registered an ace as she had a career-high five against Elmira while totaling three on the weekend with two against Utica. Burns also had a block assist in all three matches while adding three kills on the week with a two kills, on seven attempts with no errors performance against Hartwick for a hitting percentage of .286.
