ALFRED, NY—John Winchell (Vestal, NY/Vestal), a sophomore attacker on the lacrosse team, has been named the Alfred University Male Athlete of the Week.
Winchell is being honored for his performance in the season opener for the Saxons against the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles where AU topped Brockport, 9-8. The sophomore scored a hat trick in win, the first of his career, while snatching three ground balls and causing one turnover.
The men’s lacrosse team hits the field again next Monday, March 9th when they travel to Myrtle Beach to take on the Hilbert Hawks for the first of three spring break games.
