ALFRED, NY – The 2026 season-opener for the Alfred University field hockey team against Cedar Crest College has been canceled.
 
The non-conference matchup that would have been the first official contest of the field hockey program's second season, after the scheduled contest with SUNY Oneonta on September 1 was canceled. The Saxons now look to have their first contest of 2026 with a home Empire 8 game against Russell Sage College on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00pm from Yunevich Stadium. The game is also field hockey's Morgan's Message game, with the intent to raise awareness for student-athletes' mental health.
 
The matchup with Cedar Crest will not be made up later in the schedule.
