ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University women's soccer team battled out to a scoreless draw against Utica University on Saturday night.
The Saxons (1-5-3, 0-3-1 Empire 8) opened the game with two shots that were blocked on the way to goal. They eventually got its first shot on net in the 36th minute off the foot of
Ava Thayer (Nunda, NY/Keshequa).
AU continued to battled as the night went on, with defensive stops all over the field to keep the Pioneers (3-2-4, 0-0-3 Empire 8) away.
Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) finished the game with six saves.
The best defensive stop of the evening game with just over two minutes to go in a scrum in the box. Off of a Utica corner kick, it would be
Amber Bates (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) getting in front of a shot to clear it off the line and earn the home team a point.
Up next for the Saxons, they will hit the road for the first of four straight games. They start their road trip against SUNY Brockport on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
