ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team began their week of Empire 8 competition with a 2-0 loss to Nazareth University on Wednesday afternoon.
Following a handball in the goalkeeper's box, Nazareth (3-2-1, 1-1-0 Empire 8) converted on the penalty kick to take the initial lead in the 7th minute of action.
Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) continued to be tested for Alfred University (1-5-2, 0-3-0 Empire 8), recording a pair of saves within the first 15 minutes. Later in the half, a breakaway shot for Nazareth deflected off the hands of Mott and reached the back of the net, as AU trailed 2-0 going into halftime.
In the second half,
Anna Henner (Williamson, NY/Williamsville Senior) was the first Saxon to be credited with a shot attempt. Just moments later,
Isabelle Dennis (Livonia, NY/Livonia) attempted a shot for Alfred University in an attempt to spark the team in the offensive third. Mott registered seven saves in the second half, but the Saxons were unable to score before the end of regulation.
Alfred University will next return home to host Utica University on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
