HAMILTON, NY — The Alfred University men's rugby team moved to 2-0 in Lake Effect Regional Conference play with a 26-19 win over Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

"It was a hard-fought match, coming down to a defensive stand to win the game," Head Coach Dale Russell said. "The team played with a lot of heart, playing down a man for over a half. We are now looking ahead to Geneseo for the home opener on Friday."

AU's defensive stand came brilliantly on the road, and they responded on offense when they moved to the other half of the field. Captain Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa/St. Andrews College) hurried the Colgate defense by scurrying for three trys.

James Lowe (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates/BISAD) tacked on one more try to help the Saxons break away in the end. In addition, he finished off plays with three conversions.

Alfred University will head home for the first of three games in a row at their new place atop Saxon Hill. They'll host the first home game at their new facility on Friday night against SUNY Geneseo at 6:00 p.m.
