ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's rugby team continued its win streak, taking care of business against the University of Rochester 39-22 on Friday night.
"Hard fought win tonight," Head Coach
Dale Russell said. "The boys did what they needed to do to secure the home field for the conference championship."
AU (6-1, 6-0 LERC) took advantage of five tries with five different scorers.
Nathan Towne (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville Jr/Sr) and
Phillip Peterson III (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each scored a try en route to captaining their team to the win.
Seniors
Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa/St. Andrews College) and
Joseph Bodley (Le Roy, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) added onto the score with their own tries. Finally,
Tenzin Dawoe (Thimphu, Bhutan/Malden Catholic) ended the night with his first collegiate try.
The kicking game for the Saxons was also beneficial in scoring. All those came from
Jack Murphy (Bicester, United Kingdom/Blessed George Napier Catholic Secondary School and Sixth Form), including four conversions and two PKs as well.
While the Saxons have their eyes set on the conference championship, they have one more match to go in the regular season at Le Moyne College on Halloween at 2 p.m.
