DELHI, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2026 season with a 4-1 loss on the road to SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
AU (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) fell behind just seven minutes in when they conceded a penalty kick, sending
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) the wrong way. The Broncos connected again just past the half-hour mark to double their lead.
The Saxons responded just six minutes later to cut the lead in half.
Lawrence John Taylor (Bong County, Liberia/Westminster School) threaded a ball to
Derek Alexei Rodriguez (Panama Oeste, Panama/Colegio San Gabriel de la Dolorosa) who slotted it into the bottom corner.
Alfred University recorded eight shots alone in the first half, with Rodriguez leading all Saxons with five shots and three on target. He was unlucky to not cash in with another goal, barely missing the net twice in the final two minutes of the first 45.
AU continued holding the ball heading into the second half, pressing for the equalizer. However, two goals by the Broncos in the final four minutes put the game out of reach.
The Saxons will stay on the road as they start Empire 8 conference play at Houghton on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m.
