ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University football team continued their 2026 season with a 27-3 loss to Ithaca College on Saturday night.
"We did some good things at times, but we need to be more consistent in our execution across the board," Head Coach
Bob Rankl said. "I believe in our players and I believe in our coaching staff. We will stick together and will get back to work. Our top priority will be going 1-0 next week."
Following a scoreless first quarter, Ithaca was the first to get on the scoreboard following a field goal in the early stages of the second quarter to take the initial lead. The Saxons relied on a field goal from
Dominic Bronco (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) in the next drive to equalize the score. With the Bombers driving,
Auben Marcus Jr (Ridge, NY/Longwood) recorded an interception to allow the Saxons to take over. Ithaca scored within the final minute of the first half to take 10-3 lead into the break.
Both
Damone Allen (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) and
Jack Buchsbaum (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) recorded solid receptions in the second half, but the Bombers relied on seven points in the third quarter, followed by another 10 points in the final quarter to extend their advantage and secure the win.
Alfred University will next host St. Lawrence University next Saturday at 1:00 PM.
