ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team fell in Empire 8 action on Friday evening at Nazareth University, 6-1.
"I'm so proud of this team," Interim Head Coach
Bob Cilino '13 said. "There is pride, growth and learning coming out of this match for every single athlete that we are ready to bring to the matches and practices we have the rest of the season."
The Saxons (1-2, 0-1 Empire 8) got their lone point from No. 2 singles as
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) defeated
Anna Spencer, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) and
Camryn Moore (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh Central) also had a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. "The word of the day is 'HEART'. So proud of this team," Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "What a fantastic day of tennis. What the scores don't reflect, is the courage we showed on every court from start to finish today. There were momentum swings all over the courts and we worked through some adversity. This match, and the lessons learned therein will serve us for the rest of the season. I feel so honored to be a member of this program. LET'S GO SAXONS!"
Epping and
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) had a close bout at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-4.
Alfred University will next host SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00pm in Empire 8 action.
