Women’s Tennis Falls to Geneseo in Conference Action

HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon in a relocated home match at Houghton University in Empire 8 action.

The Saxons (1-3, 1-2 Empire 8) battled in doubles as Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) and Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) narrowly dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 1 and Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) and Camryn Moore (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh Central) were defeated, 6-3 at No. 2. Geneseo had already clinched the doubles point before Seegert and Epping's No. 1 play ended, as the Knights got the first half of the point at No. 2 and then closed with a 6-2 No. 3 doubles win.

"Very happy with our team effort today," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "We were on fire in doubles and took that momentum into singles and hung tough with one of the best teams in the conference. Becca and Alyssa played incredibly well at No. 1 doubles. Caitlin and Camryn fought until the very end of their matches. Hats off to Geneseo. They're incredibly tough and well coached. They played us hard. I'm excited to take the momentum of two fantastic matches into next week! Let's go Saxons!"

Both Seegert and Epping had strong first sets from No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Seegert loss No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-1 final and Epping had a close, 6-3 first set before a 6-0 loss in the second closed it out.

The Saxons will next travel to Fredonia on Wednesday, September 16 at 5:00pm to make up the postponed non-conference match from September 2.
