ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University and Alfred State College Athletic departments gathered in the shadow of the lone stoplight in the village to announce the result of the inaugural Alfred Cup competition. The year-long competition ended with Alfred University holding a two-point advantage, 12-10.

"The Alfred Cup has become a symbol of excellence, pride, and tradition, showcasing the dedication and resilience of every student-athlete who has competed for it," Interim Director of Athletics Erin Schurr said. "We have witnessed incredible performances and a shared respect that goes beyond the scoreboard. Both institutions have represented themselves with integrity and heart, making this cross-stoplight rivalry something meaningful."
 
"What makes the Alfred Cup unique is not simply that it is a friendly rivalry, but that it exists within a community built on collaboration," Alfred State Athletic Director Jason Doviak said. "We are different institutions with distinct missions, yet we are deeply connected by history, geography, and by a shared commitment to providing meaningful student athlete experiences."
 
The Alfred Cup, sponsored by Power & Construction Group and ServU Federal Credit Union, uses a point-based system that awards two points for a win, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss in head-to-head matchups or predetermined meets amongst varsity intercollegiate varsity programs.

On top of announcing the final standings of the Alfred Cup, the Athletic departments were proud to announce that over 400 food and pantry items were collected at Cup games and donated to the Alfred Area Food Pantry. The schools also presented a check for $1,216 to the Alfred Almond Community Sports Association from donations collected at games.
 
The first game of the 2026-27 Alfred Cup is on Tuesday, September 1 when the women's soccer teams battle each other across the street at Pioneer Stadium. The next evening, the men's soccer teams will compete at Yunevich Stadium.
