ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to Nazareth University in 16-8 fashion on Wednesday afternoon at NLPA Field.
"We showed up big for three out of four quarters but unfortunately couldn't bail ourselves out," Interim Head Coach
Erin Schurr said. "We'll look to put together all four quarters in our upcoming games."
The Golden Flyers (3-11, 3-3 Empire 8) established control early, utilizing a 9-0 run in the first quarter to put the Saxons on their heels. Alfred University (5-6, 2-4 Empire 8) found their footing in the second frame, breaking the shutout when
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity. Later in the first half,
Sydney Angelo (Windsor, NY Windsor Central) scored on an assist from
Reagan Reidy (Pine City, NY/Elmira) for Alfred University.
The Saxons' offense found rhythm in the third quarter, as
Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) led the charge with back-to-back unassisted goals just moments apart, cutting into the deficit. However, the Golden Flyers responded with three quick goals late in the quarter to maintain their advantage. Both Stansfield and Rinker scored again in the final quarter, with
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) joining the scoring column as well, but Nazareth was able to add a pair of goals to come away with the win.
Alfred University will next host Utica University on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Prior to the game, Alfred University Athletics will celebrate Senior Day.
