ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell in Empire 8 action in Yunevich Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 17-4 to Hartwick College.
The Saxons (5-5, 2-3 Empire 8) scored all four of their goals in the first half, scoring three goals in the second quarter. The Hawks (5-7, 3-2 Empire 8) scored five goals in both the first and fourth quarters with four in the third and three in the second.
Jessica Matson (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) was the first Saxon to score, making it 3-1 in the first quarter with just over four minutes to go. Hartwick scored three unanswered goals in response.
Cassidy Primrose (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) recorded AU's first goal in the second quarter, less than two minutes into the start of it, making it 6-2.
Sydney Angelo (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) scored twice, first was from free position with just under 10 minutes to go and the second coming off a pinpoint pass from
Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) with just over a minute and a half left in the half.
Molly Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) made 13 saves in goal. It is her third game of the season where she has made double-digit saves and her second in a row, having made 11 saves at SUNY Brockport.
Primrose had a game-high of nine draw controls, sailing past her previous collegiate career-high of three.
Lauren Sfeir (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) recorded four draw controls, tying for the second most of the game. Howlett had a game-high five ground balls.
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) had a team-high three caused turnovers.
The Saxons will next travel to Nazareth University on Wednesday, April 15 for a 4:00pm game start in Empire 8 action.
