UTICA, NY - Despite a high-scoring second half, the Alfred University men's basketball team rounded out their weekend with an 83-71 loss to SUNY Poly on Saturday.
Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led Alfred University with a team-high 15 points to go with three assists.
Josh Ademiju (Elkridge, MD Howard) registered his first collegiate double-double performance that consisted of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Gennaro Picco (Hornell, NY/Hornell) added 11 points for AU.
A deep shot by Curran to begin the game gave Alfred University the initial lead. Later in the half, a layup by
Andria Siamashvili (Belgrade, Serbia/Rabun Gap Cacoochee School) had the Saxons leading by as many as four points. The Wildcats put together an 8-1 run to take back the advantage and force AU to play from behind. SUNY Poly outscored Alfred University in 11-2 fashion across the final five minutes of the half before taking a 43-29 lead into halftime. Picco was the first to score for the Saxons to start the second half. An 8-0 run by Alfred University cut their deficit to nine points with 12 minutes remaining. Ademiju scored five straight points for the Saxons to keep the team within reach. AU shot 60 percent from the field across the five final minutes of play, but the Wildcats added 10 points of their own during that stretch to hold on for the win.
Alfred University will next host Russell Sage College on Friday night at 7:30 PM.
