ALBANY, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team took home a 1-1 draw to end Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
AU (7-3-4, 5-2-4 Empire 8) had four of the first five shots of the game as they looked to jump ahead early.
Hamza Kromah (Marigibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) led the way for the Saxons with five shots and two on target.
Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) also had two strikes on target on two shots. But it would be the hosts who would strike with just under four minutes to play in the first half to take the lead into the break.
But the Saxons would respond in kind just two minutes later.
AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) would put a long throw into the box, with the rebound bouncing back to him. He would then deliver the ball into the box, floating over everyone and into the back of the net for the equalizer.
Alfred University kept the pressure on in the second half with seven more shots, and ended the game with nine shots on target. But it would be the defense who would step up late, with
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) making two late saves in the final minute to earn the draw for the Saxons. Mulholland finished the game with four saves.
AU will be hitting the road for the first round of the Empire 8 postseason, but have one more game to finish before getting there. They will host Waynesburg University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Yunevich Stadium.
